When looking for wildlife to photograph I frequently have my “wing man” with me. If I’m birding by car I’ll be driving while my son Joe anxiously scans the sky asking: “is that a special bird?” when he sees one. I frequently point out that Barney thinks every bird is special but that joke has grown old.
In reality it seems that we find that raptors, and less common birds to be special to us. In winter the Snowy Owl is the most special of all. Although we have not yet seen it this year we have searched for it on many occasions. Here are the “special birds” we have found while looking for the Snowy Owl.
