Every year late in April Osprey return to Central New York. A very entertaining raptor, The Osprey have no issue making itself known and consequently can be found building large nests on top of cell phone towers everywhere.
Dining almost exclusively on fish means they can be found patrolling lakes, rivers and streams. Osprey use their talons to grab fish from the water by plunging feet first into their prey often submerging momentarily only to emerge with its catch.
When they spot their target they abruptly change course and enter a dramatic dive, folding their wings back to accelerate. Just moments before splashdown the pull their wings back behind them, raising their talons up in front of their eyes like a hunter sighting down the barrel of a gun.
