During a late July Alaskan Cruise I had the privilege of taking a shore excursion to view the local wildlife. If interested in the specific excursion it was called the “Coastal Wildlife Cruise.” The vessel was on the small side, holding just 12 passengers which afforded us the opportunity to get up close and personal with the wildlife. Although it was raining fairly heavily that is to be expected in Ketchikan and did not dampen my spirits. We traveled from the Cruise Port to nearby Carroll Inlet to begin our search for local indigenous inhabitants.
We found a pair of Bald Eagles including a recent fledgling, numerous Harbor Seals, Black-tailed Deer and a solitary Hump-back Whale. Although not normally found in the area during this time of year an “Arctic Loon” also made an appearance. Truly a fantastic voyage and one of my favorite of the trip.
