It’s hard to believe, but the 2026 edition of the Joe Shoots Birds calendar is now available.

This year’s lineup isn’t strictly “birds only,” either. A reptile and a few amphibians managed to slip past security and into the pages. And my travels also took me to the Cancun area, where I photographed Spider Monkeys living in the jungle. I now understand the phrase “monkey on your back” in a very personal way.

The jungle is also home to the ridiculously colorful Motmot—a bird whose name I enjoy saying far more than any adult should.
But as fun as those were, nothing comes close to my favorite image in the whole calendar: The Loon Family. It’s the kind of photo that makes you stop scrolling and just… stare for a second (which, in internet terms, is basically a miracle).
You can preview the calendar and buy your copy in the Joe Shoots Birds Store.
